Melani McAlister is the chair of the Department of American Studies and Associate Professor of American Studies, International Affairs, and Media & Public Affairs at the George Washington University. She is the author of Epic Encounters: Culture, Media, and U.S. Interests in the Middle East since 1945. She has also written for The Washington Post, The New York Times, and The Nation.
