I don't think this is sound advice. In my youth I took piano lessons for 8 years and I learned to play the piano "badly". Without taking lessons I became a virtuoso life analyst. I get far more pleasure explaining life clearly than I would playing piano badly so I won't be returning to it any time soon. No one would want to hear me play piano.
