Speaking of faith in these hard economic times.to me is the most natural thing to do. Livinghere in the Now remains our greatest defenseagainst hardships and difficulties. It had beensaid that when times are good we might aspireto emulate the buddhist, but when times arehard we become Taoist. But can we really haveit both ways? The Tao te Ching is a book thatmeans many things to different people, yet itis essentially unchanging and timeless. It isthe point of daily practice in the Way thatmakes all of the difference. In these hardeconomic we times we aspire to be Taoist butwhy should this be any different in good timesor bad?
Here are a few old poems and a few new, mosttend to have a bitting edge. Not for everyone.
"It is, unfortunately, only too clear that if theindividual is not truly regenerated in spirit, society cannot be either, for society is thesum total of individuals in need of redemption."-C.G. Jung
I did not ask for this burdenwhen one becomes twoIn a momenteverything changesthat is when a teacher is needed- chop wood carry water -this is only the beginningAs the old Shaman will tell hisapprentice'I am sorry that you have becomeenlightened,Now get back to work'Waking up is nothingliving it free and undetectedin a world without visionthat is the challengeHow do you speak a laungagethat has no words?
In The Dark
We can live in the darkwithout a sparkAnd call this the lightWe can live all our lifeIn obediance to ignoranceand call this divineWe can worship our ownintelligence and believethat what we achieveis worth the priceWho is at the helm?We are a nation of foolsIn a world spun out of controlIn our bid for powerWithout honor or humilitythere is no impeccabilityWe neglect the totalityof the Self
If we are constant within changelike the Sun which remainsbright even in secret at nightnot only upon it's risingthen contentment is supremewithout the weeds of desireclogging the portal of awarenessBlind allegiance selfish and uncaringwill never rise up to the heightsGradual development is the surest waywhere as prompt deliverygained in haste is soon wastedIf you know the firing processfor the gold elixer of illuminationthen you have the quality of humiltywith great power in virtueThis is the Spirit of Taonot detached but engaged on principle

"When the fundamental is established.the path develops."
"Once you recover your potential, it is likeit was always there..."

Tao Te Ching
By nurturing the small to lofty greatnesskeeping centered and embracing unitytaking charge of the pivoltal mechanismto cultivate spiritual virtues, fulfill natureand reach the meaning of life...
Interesting Jung's use of the word redemptionin the context of social survival not only of theindividual, but as this metamorphosis affectsthe macrocosm in particular.
Turn around operate in reverse, awayfrom progressive conditioning, backto the original integrity of the real mindAs long as a breath of living potentialremains there is hope for the way aheadWhere there is trust mutual progressis assured earthly vitality is transformedtrue vitaltity is born open awareness unobscured
"The energy of harmony of essence and feeling in peopleis the yang fire; this is the real. The restlessness of acquiredenergy in people is the yin fire; this is the false."
Original flawless undamagedpattern of nature...nothing is more importantthan accord withthe basis of true realityRefining away acquired yinis the work of refining the selfif you wish to conquer feelingfirst conquer essence...when stillnes is completethen action goes into motionutter emptiness beckons fulfillment"if you give little and withhold much, the spirits and immortals will not come"
"If you do not refine the mind thoroughly, the true yinwithin yourself will not become manifest; if you do notbecome thoroughly empty and quiet, the externaltrue yang will not come."
The Taoist I Ching
My friends tell me I should write from the heartall this technical spiritual science is all welland good from the safty of some ivory towerbut the real risk is in the living practice in actionAnd here lately new avenues have opened upeven though this is far from finished, this highercalling as it were, it now feels ok to let up just alittle, long enough to be an artist that other partof the creative nature... and yet i don't write nearlyhalf as much as I feel compelled to and a daymissed is a day lost in time forever...
All that we know can not be spoken in words, words without appropriate action aremeaningless; reaching into eternity is assimple as turning over the palm of your handstep into the now and all things are understoodsustaining the 'now' takes practice, to oftenwe give up along the way, slack off on our effortsforgetting the truth that is just before us...
Refining the self with dignityActing with unfailing clarityonce the earthly and celestialare completed in consumationuse the path of nonstrivingto preserve completion and balance
Having your own epiphany onlymarks the beginning of learning
"When illumination returns to the center, and you show your own lack and respectwhat others have, even if you are ignorantyou will gain understanding, and even ifyou are weak you will become strong, without losing your basic flexibility andreceptivity."
"What is auspicious and leads to good resultsis the ability to empty and open the mind."
Images from the ~ Tao Te Ching ~
He who talks, it is said, doesn't knowhe who knows doesn't talk...After all once we are cleansedof our personal history, oncethe past falls into proper perspectiveWhat more is there to say?How many more books need be readat the point of nonstriving spontaneity?
We simply learn in a different manneronce the search has ended... once thereis no more need for seeking if we do notunderstand the necessity for hiddenpractice all that has been gained will beset to ruin against the mundane...
If you realize that all things changethere is nothing you will hold on toIf you aren't affraid of dyingthere is nothing you cann't achieveteach without a teachingact without doingarrive without being summonedheal yourself of all knowingwithout opeing your dooryou can open your heartto the world...seeing into darkness is clarityknowing how to yield is strengthif your want to take somethingyou must first allow it be givenif you want to shrink somethingyou must first allow it to expandthis is the subtal percepceptionof the way things arereturn to the source of lightpracticing eternity...these teachings are olderthan the world how couldwe grasp their meaning?
the subtle perception of the way things areless and less do you need to force thingsuntil finally you arrive at nonactionwhen nothing is done - nothing is left undone
it is possible to arrive withoutunderstanding the processmany paths will doin recapitulation...understanding the processhowever, requires mastery
The master, it is said, teachesby weakening their ambitionand strengthening their resolveto emtpty one's mind andthereby filling one's core...
yet there is dangerin solitary cultivationof tranquility...being outwardly flexiblebut inwardly firmrefining oneselfcontrolling the mindascending from lowlinessto the heights...eliminating angerand convetousnessentering graduallythis realm of beautystopping falsehoodmaintaining truthfulnessclarifing the goodrestoring the original"Profoundly arrivingat self-realization,one will rise intothe inner sanctumof sages."
"When one is flexible and balanced, keeping toone's lot calmly and constantly, without thoughtor effort, sincere and singleminded, this canbe called constancy in this one virtue. However, fidelity to this single-mindedness is suitablefor cultivating quietude apart from society, butit is difficult to thereby comprehend essenceand reach the destiny of life."
"So practioners of the Tao should be constantin the right way, especially in practice of theright path. Only then can they get somewherebeneficially, comprehend essence and arriveat the meaning of life, and preform the greatwork in the world that is eternally unchanging."
