For my World Religions class, the homework often includes listening to different interviews by Krista Tippett on On Being, and it’s become a wonderful source of reflection to listen to the podcasts. Even before listening to Words That Shimmer, I knew that this would be a wonderful interview, and it did not disappoint. I’m in awe of the Elizabeth Alexander’s flowery speech. I keep thinking about her declaration that poetry is an art form for poor people. I’m not yet sure how I feel about that.Something that especially resonated with me was the importance Alexander puts on silence, meditation, and spirituality when writing poems. The podcast was thought-provoking and fascinating.
