Thank you Jennifer for this important post. It's a subject that's been on my mind an awful lot of late. I relate to the quote you pull from Sherry Turkle's book quite a bit, especially as a younger social media user...but it's become much less of an issue as I've grown older and as my online identity becomes more and more integrated and authentic. People who are interested--whether what I'm sharing stretches them or not-will find ways to engage. However, it's true that the technology does not encourage cross-discipline, nonsectarian or interfaith dialogue as much as it could. We have to do our best to encourage the technology to foster that as individuals by actively engaging with those who have different views and opinions.
