I really appreciated that Ms. Zornberg talked about the story of Eden as one of growing up. I've always seen the story as children growing up. It's not that they were "punished," but rather had to suffer the natural consequences of choosing to leave childhood behind. It's a traumatic time for parents and children. Children love to run around naked, but suddenly they hit a time where it's no longer acceptable. Children don't know the difference between right and wrong, but at some point we have to learn. Once we learn these adult things, we can't turn back the clock and life get's harder.
That's how I see the story. Eve chose to grow up.
