Fruitvale Station is a very good directorial debut & a provocative film, but it is unfair to call Hollywood racist because it wasn't nominated for an Oscar. Hollywood has honored films made by black filmmakers that deal with modern racism before (Do The Right Thing; Boyz n the Hood; Malcolm X; Ali). True, they didn't win an Oscar, but they've been nominationed.
I think the fact the movie came out in the winter is what harmed its chances & not some sort of conscious (or unconscious) effort by Hollwood to band together and overlook the film bec it was made by black people.
