Almost a parable, no, it is a parable with apt connections from nature's flow to an inner application, like the methods of lection divina, or scriptural prayer: lectio or read the scripture attentively and reverently, meditatio on the relations to your observations, oratio as prayerful conversation with God or the saints on its deeper meaning, and finally contemplation of the soul's core intimacy with God. I have heard of a fifth process, operatio, the means to implement meaningful action to better the community. This analogy of the garden is rich in images and metaphors, like St. Teresa's own means of contemplative prayer. Many thanks, Ernie
