On Being, a Peabody and Webby Award-winning national news program, is looking for an Assistant Producer for Radio Production.

Reporting to the Senior Producer, this person will work directly on the day-to-day production of On Being’s weekly radio program and podcast, as well as contribute to its websites ( and other distribution platforms.

Intelligent conversation and deep listening are core to our style of journalism. This person should be willing to bring his or her full self to the position, representing On Being audiences in what we create and curate, and in what we might not yet know.

Position Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Senior Producer:

  • Supports the daily/weekly production of radio and podcast program.
  • Pitches and researches possible guests.
  • Assists senior producer and host in writing copy for radio scripts.
  • Books guests and prepares host prep.
  • Prepares weekly program audio for online use.
  • Produces new content for On Being’s digital channels (i.e. website, podcast, and mobile apps).
  • Adheres to and elevates high standards of accuracy, production quality, and timeliness.

  • Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of ProTools preferred, or comparable audio editing software.
  • 1-2 years of demonstrated experience with radio production or storytelling.
  • Strong editorial and news judgment with excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to write copy consistent with the On Being voice.
  • Ability to handle tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility, ability to respond to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work efficiently with limited direct supervision.
  • Ability to envision project outcomes that integrate a variety of media.

  • Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Required to move about in an office environment and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Required to move about in the community.
  • Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes and simple grasping.

  • Working Conditions:

  • Moderate noise level.
  • Occasional exposure to prevalent weather conditions.
  • A deadline-driven environment that can be stressful.
