Imagine:
a summer of salads from farmers' markets
vine ripened tomatoes
fresh dug scallions
clean washed mesclun
—succulent fare

Imagine:
a few hundred dogs in farmers' barns
a few unsold puppies
all the old bitches
sick diseased dogs
—useful no more

Imagine:
the unwanted animals killed by the farmers
dumped in the fields
to rot between rows
of fresh baby greens
—fertilizer

Imagine:
a summer of salads from farmers' markets
vine ripened tomatoes
fresh dug scallions
clean washed mesclun
—succulent fare
