Krista's Journal: Oceanographer Sylvia Earle and Our Trip to Turkey (June 7, 2012)

June 7, 2012

This week, Krista is traveling to Istanbul, Turkey. For the first several days, we'll be gathering interviews from this place at the crossroads of Europe and the Middle East, Islam and democracy.

Then, for the final three days, Krista will be helping moderate the Halki Summit. It's a small global gathering of environmental, business, scientific, and spiritual leaders on the island of Heybeliada — just a ferry ride from Istanbul. It's hosted by His All-Holiness Bartholomew, the Ecumenical Patriarch of the world's 300 million Eastern Orthodox Christians. Jane Goodall and Bill McKibben will be among those in attendance.

Travel abroad with us online, where we'll be posting photos and articles on our blog, Facebook, and Twitter.

And, this week, when you click through to our website, you might notice onbeing.org has a slightly different look and feel to it. We've been building tens of thousands of web pages by hand for nearly ten years now. And, we've won two Webby Awards for our work online. However, it was time for a change. So we migrated to a content management system, which will allow us to be more responsive in presenting all the audio, video, and articles we create on a daily and weekly basis.

Our intention is to make it easier for you to listen to each week's show, Krista's unedited interviews, and the playlists of all the music included in the final production. And, we've built a new audio player from the ground up. Now you can seamlessly stream On Being on your computer, on your smartphones (iPhones and Android devices), and on your iPads or tablets.

Please let us know what you think. And, if you see anything that needs to be improved — or doesn't feel intuitive to you — share those criticisms too. It's a work in progress, and we aim to make it an even better experience in the coming months!

Thank you!
